Monday Morning Blues

Apologies for the lack of updates. A recent tragedy saw a friend of mine close to me pass away.

So here is the latest news.

We have new owners and they are investing in time and money for the servers. The company shall change soon and after that there shall be more updates. At the moment all updates are on hold pending the decision made by the new owners on where we wish to go. Such is the way of these games. Myself and Dev Admin are still going to be employed by the company with all the same powers we have, with a slightly larger pay. Our new owners have guaranteed our positions.

We have parted way with one of the moderators on the forums. We now have limited staff. The Forum Administrator has advertised new positions, however as the forums belong to MultiverseGames who are not willing to sell the forums to the new owners they may not last long. What this will mean is that we will be setting up a new forum shortly once everything is in place.

More news to follow.

This version only contains the basic setup and workings of alliances: creation, request to join, kick members, modify alliance details, send alliance message, alliance message board (mini forum), rankings, member titles/ranks, and a permission setting to allow others to maintain things in the alliance.

The max member count is currently 10, but with future updates you will be able to increase this value. Also future updates will allow more things to be done within alliances and for your alliance to help you in ship building

Fixes:

  • Skill training message fixed
  • Mail message saving fixed

Additions:

  • Facebook Portal Version 0.0.2 released, you can add our application to Facebook and log in. Work is being completed to ensure that all the frames are correct. At the moment only the login page has been "updated".
  • Social Websites updated - We now use Twitter, Bebo, Blogger, You Tube, and Social Follow.
  • Google Translator added to each page - This will allow you to translate into the supported languages provided by this tool.
  • Updated Terms of Service - The new TOS is a little more in depth than the old version.

FORUM UPDATES
  • 2 new skins added to the existing list.

Ah updates day, how I do love it on the date of a release.

My main ambition over the coming weeks is to a) get a defined release schedule for updates, and try to stick to these dates with the new additions. and b) continue developing the facebook app. As this won't require any code changes to the game itself, I will be merely "pointing" it to the existing code, which is helpful. The Facebook application will not be as powerful as the game itself, (as in when I am finished with it) you will not get the whole game experience as you do while logged in.

This I estimate will take several weeks before I have a fully functional fully compliant with our own code version of the game. It will receive all the same updates, and information that the real game has, but will look and feel different.

If you have any questions please feel free to drop me a line at one of my e-mail addresses.

People who have not logged in.

Tonight I e-mailed everyone who had not logged into the website after registration. After toiling around for hours with the e-mail system, I gave up and decided to use G-mail instead. Which of course had it own problems.

In other news,

Dev Admin fixed his internet, so production of the next release is back in full swing, we expect the next release to happen this weekend. It appears that our rate of expansion is growing by roughly 25 accounts a day, which is fantastic news.

I broke the Forum image today, while trying to install a new one. No major loss, I had to e-mail the Forum Admin to try and see if he had a copy of it, however he didn't have one. Lesson learned, save before doing. Fully confident in my abilities however I didn't bother checking before I uploaded.

Last night, I managed to create the workings of a Facebook application for the game. Next week, I will start working on it more properly, as there shouldn't be any code changes, Dev Admin shouldn't need to be involved. You can check it out from the following link:

That's all for today.

All alone

As you may know Dev Admin is without internet at the moment, from lengthy telephone conversations with him, it also appears that while he has no internet, he can not conect the the database which contains the code for updating the game.

So what we are doing at the moment, besides hounding the broadband company daily, is coming up with new and exciting directions to take the game. Unfortunately not having the internet isn't helpful as you can imagine. In the world before internet, I am amazed anything was ever done. Alas, we stuggle forward.

We have come up with several key ideas, which are all now on paper. To give you a brief glimplse of these, here is an example:

  • Food
  • Alliances will be a vast expansion to the game.
  • Ships may become damaged or fall into disrepair if not used.
These are just some of the things we we're thinking about, they may not even happen. We will keep you posted.

In another good news story, we have now today passed 800 active user accounts. This is a huge triumph considering we have not yet advertised the game. Today, I am concentrating on updating a few things around the site, and researching translating the entire game into other languages. I was thinking about Google, however on testing it appears that if your logged into a page, and you use Google to translate it redirects you to their page, which doesn't work, rather annoying. What we may have to end up doing is literally getting every single piece of script and translating it and have the user select their language. That however is a huge undertaking.

Never the less we press on and forward. Till next time.
